Remarkable past auction items
RR Auction is known for the amazing pop culture items
brought in with almost each and every lot sale. Their auctions are, without
exception, a rare display of autographs, unique documents, photographs and
fantastic memorabilia that is not only highly valuable but incredibly
appreciated as well. Collectors can always count on RR Auction’s selection of
amazing items, especially when it comes to pop culture, since the company
started off specialized on autographs and signed memorabilia.
Back in October 2009 managed to sell an amazing pair of
letters written in the last two weeks of the performer’s life. The first one is
signed by Houdini
himself and is addressed to his attorney, Oliver Barrett. In part, the letter
reads “The articles in the Examiner
have not come to my attention and I am very glad you have some. If there is any
information regarding the people with whom we have lawsuits, I will let you
know. I met with an accident, having suffered an interior fracture of my ankle,
and can do only three quarters of my performance.” According to RR Auction, the
lawsuit that Houdini mentions was intended against spiritualist charlatans. The
second letter has the same recipient, but is written by Houdini’s secretary and
it contains details about his fragile health. Both these letters were in fine
condition and were sold for over $3,950. These documents offer valuable
information regarding Houdini’s last few days, which made them all the more
valuable for collectors.
One other example
of remarkable past auction items sold by RR Auction is a deposition given by
John Lennon. As stated by RR Auction, the lawsuit this deposition was used in
was intended by Big Seven Music against Apple Records, Maclen Music Ltd. and
Northern Songs Ltd. At the time of the lawsuit, 1971 and 1973 Big Seven Music
was Chuck Berry’s music publisher and they were accusing John Lennon of copying
both music and lyrics from Berry’s “you can’t catch me” in “Come together”.
According to RR Auction, the lawsuit resolved in 1973 when Lennon agreed to
record three songs for Big Seven Music. In part, the deposition read “ever since I was in my teens I was acquainted with the
works of Chuck Berry whom I consider one of the original rock and roll poets. I
heard his recording of You Can’t Catch Me at this time and spent many hours in
generally [sic] listening to his general catalog.” This unique piece of musical
history was sold in September 2016 for over $6,560.
It’s no wonder
that RR
Auction has such an
impressive reputation when it comes to pop culture memorabilia since they have
managed to sell such rare items. Anyone interested in getting their hands on a
unique collectible should definitely check out their online catalogues, website
or social media updates.
