Last chance for Jimi Hendrix signed document
RR Auction has an
incredible lot sale scheduled for next month and collectors should definitely
take note of the remarkable items available. The Marvels of Modern Music auction will start on December 7 and will
conclude on December 14, which gives anyone interested plenty of time to browse
the online catalogue and see what is up for grabs. The auction features
countless valuable collectibles, including vintage guitars, other instruments
and even autographs or important documents.
For instance, one of
the most valuable items featured in this auction is a document signed by Jimi Hendrix that was written with
the occasion of a trial the artist took part in. According to RR Auction, thelawsuit was intended by Ed Chaplin and his management company, PPX against the
guitarist and his management company, Yameta, represented by Chas Chandler.
As it is stated by RR
Auction, this lawsuit was intended because Ed Chaplin wanted to bank on the
success of a rising Jimi Hendrix. As it turns out, soon after the artist met manager
Ed Chaplin back in 1965 before he became a great success, the two signed a
three year managing deal for a total sum of one dollar. However, given the
unexpected success gained by Jimi Hendrix starting with 1966, the artist signed
an additional managing contract with Yameta.
As a result, as it is
mentioned by RR Auction, the lawsuit was based on breach of contract, Chaplin
and PPX being awarded a payout of $1,000,000 and a share of future royalties.
However, according to RR Auction, the lawsuit implied a bit more than these
monetary benefits. Jimi Hendrix was also supposed to release a live album,
which he did alongside Buddy Miles and Billy Cox, with the Band of Gypsys. That
is actually the last album that Jimi Hendrix released before his death.
The document in
question, is in fine condition. It has some light corner creasing and a small
piece of old tape on the left edge. According to RR Auction, the
lawsuit and this document are highly important because they have somehow
managed to influence the artist’s short career.
