was basically a double cloth matted and framed deposition which even came with
a portrait of Bean. As it is stated by RR Auction, the lawsuit this
deposition was used in concerned the case of Roy B. Trent who allegedly
shot William Cox.
According to RR Auction, the lawsuit or, better said, the
deposition was dated on December 23, 1889 and it reads: “In the case of Roy B. Trent. John C. Monier been duly
sworn deposes and says I was standing bout 20 steps from the office. I saw a
man standing inside the counter strike Wm. Cox with a stick. Wm. Cox run out.
He followed him out.
Question by Roy B. Trent—Did you see Wm. Cox raise a Bar. Answer yes.
Question—What happened after he raised the Bar. Roy B. Trent shot at him twice. Question by Roy B. Trent—did Wm. Cox come after me with a Bar. Answer—no. I then saw Wm. Cox run by Roy Bean’s house.”
The 21.5 X 17.25
inches document was signed along at the bottom with “Sworn before me Roy Bean,
J. P. Val Verde, Tex.” Additionally, the deposition had intersecting folds,
some scattered mild toning and a few creases. Apart from that, the deposition
plus Bean’s portrait was in fine condition at the time is was sold. RR Auction
managed to sell the deposition for $3,600.
